Speech therapists are health professionals trained to assess and treat individuals with speech impairments such as slurs, stutters or lisps as well as articulation disorders secondary to dysarthria and/or apraxia of speech. Their scope of practice however is not limited to these issues. They help with many other issues including the following:

 

  • Speech and language delays in children

  • Speech and language disorders in adults due to  stroke, brain injury, dementia

  • Vocal disturbances

  • Swallowing and feeding issues

  • Cognitive-communication including social skills and problem solving

  • Reading comprehension rehabilitation

Most insurance companies cover speech pathology.
